Everything the economy makes is made by two inputs, capital and labour. Now look at how the output is shared. Capital has kept almost all of the gains, year after year, while wages crawl along beside inflation. That is no accident and no malfunction. The machine is running as designed. Nobody is coming to repair it. Nothing is broken.
The shortfall needs a villain. So a fall guy is put forward. The immigrants, the old, the woke. Scapegoats. They keep every eye pointed away from the ledger, where the real division is written in plain figures.
You can rage at that. I did. My heart aches; society must change. But who am I? What power do I have? Not enough. Marching felt useless. Understanding the mechanism. If you can, change the world! If not, act for yourself. Vote? Protest? No. I defect.
Siding with the winner. If capital captures the gains, become capital. Sell your hours for a wage, yes, for now. But convert the wage into a stake, a capital stake, and let the stake compound. Yield. A stake is the one member of the household that works through the night, takes no holiday. Never resigns. Never gets tired. 24/7/365.
Income means fuck all. Ten thousand in, twelve thousand out is life creep. You stay a wage slave for life. What you keep is the only number that counts. So keep it by rule, not by willpower: save the moment the salary lands, fixed percentages, no negotiating with yourself. Variable removed. And never spend money you have not first saved. No consumer debt. Ever.
Own the right things. Money is conjured; two ledger entries and a signature and it exists. Out of thin air. Hold what cannot be conjured: the productive machinery of the world. The money no state can print. Stocks are the plainest route. The whole market, all regions, low cost, market weighted: a share of the inventive ingenuity of humanity. And own, do not hoard. A hoard shrinks. A stake works.
Then wait. Compounding is the only free lunch and time is the one asset nobody gets back. The middle years look like nothing and are everything. Brick by brick, unremarkable for a decade, then suddenly not. The money can be replaced. The decade it took to earn it cannot.
The finish line has a name: escape velocity. The day your capital income exceeds your spending. The engine carries itself and your hours are your own again. The evening after the day's work is done, Feierabend. This whole project is the purchase of the permanent one. Not the yacht. Buy back Monday. You deserve it.
