Privacy

Short version: this site does not count its readers and cannot identify them. It measures nothing, and this page says so in plain words.

No accounts, no comments, no newsletter, no advertising, no tracking pixels, no analytics, no visit counter, and no cookies. The fonts are hosted here, so reading an essay calls no third party beyond the two cases listed below. There was a plan, in August 2026, to count reader-days and rate essays. It was built and never switched on, and on 2 September 2026 it was taken out. Nothing about you is measured, by this site or by anyone on its behalf.

The two exceptions

Translation. Posts offer an optional translation button powered by Google Translate. Nothing loads from Google unless you click it. If you do, Google serves the translation and Google's own privacy policy applies to that request.

Portfolio charts. The two charts on the portfolio page are live images served from Google Sheets. Viewing that page, and only that page, makes your browser request them from Google, which sees your IP address as any image host would. The rest of the site makes no Google requests at all.

Server logs

The server that delivers these pages keeps routine technical logs (IP address, page requested, time), as effectively every web server does, used only to keep the site running and fended from abuse, then rotated away. They're never used to identify readers, and never shared.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over personal data an organisation holds about you. This site holds nothing about you at all, so there's nothing to request, correct, or delete. But if you believe otherwise, or have any question about this page, write to info@499.rocks. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, though we'd be surprised if it came to that.

Last updated: September 2, 2026. If the site's plumbing ever changes, this page changes with it.
